What level am I?
  • First Timer: You’ve never been on skis or a snowboard before. You’ll be focusing on the basics, and finding your feet. A First Timer Package is recommended.
  • Beginner: You can stop on skis or a snowboard and are ready to work on side-slipping or turning in the Beginner area. You’ll build confidence and skills as you aim to progress to green runs.
  • Learner: You can control your speed and turn both ways on green runs.
  • Intermediate: You’re comfortable skiing or snowboarding on green and blue runs. You’re refining your parallel turns or edge control and are eager to explore different snow conditions and terrain.
  • Advanced: You’re ready to take your skills to the next level. You confidently ski or snowboard all over the mountain, explore off-piste terrain, and are interested in refining these skills or hitting the terrain park.
Do kids need to wear helmets?

We recommend everyone to wear helmets for skiing or snowboarding. Under 12s are required to wear helmets in lessons. There are rentals and retail options available for helmets at Tūroa. Tūroa Academy, Rippers and Mountain Explorers participants are required to wear helmets.

Depending on the age of the kids, this includes team building and exercise activities in Ohakune, indoors & outside. There may be extra activities that incur a small charge, such as the Vertical Climbing Wall.

What about dietary requirements for supervised lunches?

We can cater for most requirements, just make sure you note this on your booking so we can contact you if required.

Is Tūroa good for beginners?

Absolutely. We’ve got custom packages designed specifically for beginners to help you get started the right way. Check out our First-Timer Packages for the best value to get you – or your family – out on the snow.
