The highest lift reaches approximately 2,322 metres (7,620 feet) above sea level offering unparalleled views of the surrounding landscape. 500 hectares Spread across 500 hectares of pristine volcanic terrain, Tūroa ski area boasts a diverse landscape that caters to all skill levels, from beginners to seasoned veterans. 722 metres Riders are treated to a breathtaking vertical descent of 722 meters, providing thrilling runs and unforgettable vistas. June to October Tūroa typically receives significant snowfall during the winter season, which generally runs from June to October. Freddie possesses unparalleled firsthand knowledge of the maunga and the intricate workings of operating a ski resort, especially in the challenging conditions often encountered in the Central North Island. His expertise isn't just confined to the technical aspects; it's a deep understanding forged through years of dedication and experience. Corporate Manager Kat Mckenzie Kat is a ski industry professional with over 15 years of invaluable experience. Born and raised in Taumarunui Jess was based in Tauranga until feeling the pull homeward and joining Pure Tūroa in 2024. Snow School, Retail, Rental Manager Matt Britton Meet Matt Britton, the versatile manager who will be overseeing Snow School, Retail, and Rentals at Tūroa this winter season. With over a decade of expertise in snow school instruction and 12 years as an NZSIA examiner, Matt brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to the slopes. His 11 years of successful business acumen ensure an exciting future for all departments under his leadership. Matt has been an integral part of the Pure Tūroa Team from the very beginning, contributing to our success so far. Patrol Manager Brendon Nesbit With over two decades of experience in mountain safety, Brendon emerges as a steadfast guardian of our snow-covered maunga. While Deer Valley, Utah, is his home during the northern hemisphere winters, he extends his expertise to Tūroa, Ohakune, during our winter season. Leading the Patrol Crew at Turoa, Brendon epitomises vigilance and preparedness, ensuring the safety of all who traverse the slopes. His leadership and unwavering commitment to safety make him an indispensable asset to the Tūroa team, guaranteeing every mountain escapade to be as exhilarating as it is secure. Rohe Relationship Manager Ali Chamley With a background that spans from ski school instruction to customer service, Ali has a wealth of knowledge within the Tūroa environment being a born and bred local with more than 30 winter seasons under her belt. Beyond her local expertise, Ali brings a global perspective to the table, having gained experience in the international ski industry. However, what truly sets Ali apart is her unwavering commitment to driving positive social and environmental change, as a key contributor to Pure Tūroa Iwi engagement initiative. Maintenance Manager Gareth Bradnam Meet Gaz, a cornerstone of Tūroa Operations whose expertise and dedication are instrumental in ensuring the smooth functioning of our operations. With a background as a qualified builder, Gaz initially served as the Maintenance Manager before transitioning seamlessly into his current role in operations. Gaz is a family man, married with three boys, and has proudly called Ohakune home for over ten years. He's deeply connected to our community and is an essential part of our team, reflecting our values of unity and collaboration. Hospitality Manager Daz Beange Originally from Hamilton Daz, spent 19 winters in Ohakune, starting off in 1998 at Margaritas bar, founding Suitcase bar & Restaurant in 2009 and then heading to Auckland in 2017 as Operations Manager of Showcase Hospitality for Auckland council. After welcoming his first son in 2023, the stars aligned for his move back to Ohakune, which was his first choice for a family base. Daz joined the Pure Tūroa team in 2024 and hit the ground running with major renovations in the Alpine Cafe. Guest Services Supervisor Jessica Torkington Brought up in Warkworth, Jessica had her first taste of skiing aged 7 right here at Tūroa and settled in Rangataua after her first winter working on the maunga in 2019. When she's not on the end of the phone to Tūroa guests, Jessica loves to travel and has visited 21 countries so far. On days off closer to home, she’ll be found stitching up a storm for Lovely Lily Designs, whipping something up in the kitchen or making the most of the numerous hikes in Tongiraro national park. Lift Operations Supervisor Daniel (Dan) Jose Hailing from Auckland, Dan boasts an adventurous career path, beginning as a shepherd in the South Island before diving into adventure tourism spending winters at Tūroa and summers black water rafting. A proficient climber and hiker, Dan discovered his calling in leading the Tūroa lifts & deicing teams, scaling ice-covered towers to ensure we can open after a storm. Off mountain, Dan's passion for exploration takes him underground, where he's been spelunking since before he could even walk. Grooming Supervisor Zhann Tracey Originating from Opononi, a quaint village in the Far North, Zhann came to Turoa in 2007 for one season as a Lift Operator and, 14 winter seasons later, he's still here! In the summer months Zhann loves to hit the beach and catch some waves but his real passion is winter, which is why he chose Ohakune as the base to raise his two amazing daughters, the next generation of Tūroa die hards. THE PEOPLE BEHIND PURE TŪROA Pure Tūroa Ltd founders Cam Robertson (right) and Greg Hickman (left) have both made Ohakune their home. They're passionate about the future of Mt. Ruapehu and aspire to do their part in securing a strong local economy that supports the prosperity of the surrounding local communities. Cam, a ski industry expert and professional ski trainer with experience in China, Japan and the USA, is an investor in regional commercial and residential property development and has built and managed highly successful hospitality businesses. Greg owns beverage production facilities and hospitality businesses in Singapore and Indonesia, and with an IT background owns a tech company in the USA providing services to the utility and banking sectors. Locally, he's an investor in Ohakune property and a brewery developing products for export. They've come together with a shared vision for developing the Tūroa ski area into a long-term financially, environmentally and culturally sustainable operation that delivers the most exciting and entertaining snow experience in New Zealand. Pure Tūroa Ltd has been fortunate to attract an excellent advisory board that provides an immense resource of experience and depth of skills including corporate governance, banking and finance, government relations, iwi relations, environmental planning and operations management. Group lessons Adults 13+ First or second day as a skier or snowboarder? Find everything you need in one easy package: lessons, lift passes, and rental equipment. Taking a lesson is the BEST way to make sure your mountain experience is the absolute best! Don’t struggle along alone for those first few hours, join our Snow School and let us get you up and going in no time. Learning from a professional right off the bat means you won’t pick up bad habits and you’ll be able to make the most out of your day, or days at the mountain. Our packages are the best way to make your first day on the slopes smooth sailing. Packages include your lesson, ski or snowboard gear and a lift pass for the beginner area. For everything else you’ll need like gloves and goggles we have you covered at our retail stores downtown & on mountain. Lessons start daily from 9am. Got a pass or your own gear? You can purchase a group lesson without the add ons. Group ski lessons are not only a great way to learn but also to connect with other skiers and snowboarders, who knows who you might meet! Tackle new challenges, have a great time and improve your skills alongside others with similar abilities. Rather have your instructor to yourself? Opt for a Private Lesson where you'll receive dedicated instruction tailored to your learning style. Kids Ski from 6yrs - 12yrs Snowboard from 7yrs to 12yrs Kids lessons Got your own pass or gear or a little more experience on the mountain? You’ll be looking for a full or half day kids lesson. These lessons are for beginner to intermediate skiers and snowboarders. Full days include lunch. Full days start at 9am and half days at 9am or 12.30pm. Pre-booking is essential. Frequently asked questions How can I connect my existing snowcard to my new profile and update my profile picture? Once you've successfully registered and logged into your new account, locate the person icon in the upper section of the page. Clicking this will navigate you to your account details. Within the 'Active Pass' section, you can add your snowcard information by selecting 'Add New Pass'. Your profile picture can also be uploaded from this same account details page. I'm unable to access my profile from last year. Our online store has been updated for the new season. As a result, you'll need to create a new profile. If you encounter any difficulties during the setup process, please reach out to Jess at info@pureturoa.nz for assistance. Whats new? Freddies bar upstairs at the Alpine, come check it out! Here, you can purchase tickets, ask questions, return rentals and shop our amazing selection of merchandise and gifts. Age Definitions Season Passes: Ages are taken as of June 1, 2025, except for 75+ which is based on the time of purchase. Day Passes and Rentals: Ages are determined on the purchase date. Youth: 6-16 years; Adult: 17+; Senior: 65-74 years. Photo ID may be required. Students must be 17+yrs enrolled full time (minimum 32 weeks in a calendar year) with a New Zealand or Australian tertiary institution. Proof of current enrolment required. Children 5 and under and seniors 75+ ski free but require a validated pass for lift access Where can I pick up my new lift pass card? Our pick up boxes are located on mountain and at our Ohakune shop - Tūroa HQ. When you do collect, make sure to have your phone brightness turned up and then scan from under the screen. What lifts will be running? These lifts will all be operating as soon as conditions allow. Under 13s are required to wear helmets in Snow school lessons, everyone else is advised to. Helmets are available for rent or purchase on the mountain. What can we do if we don't ski or snowboard? We have Sledding & Sightseeing options as well as delicious cafe offerings. Sledding is based in the Wintgergarden, and tickets can be purchased from guest services or retail. The price will include 1 hour of sledding and 1x sled. Please note to access our sledding area you will need to purchase a sightseeing pass. For sightseeing you can access the Parklane chair lift up to the Snowflake Cafe. While up there you will have access to a cafe, toilets, and snow play. The price is for a round trip My child can’t ski, can I still take them with me in a backpack? For safety reasons, we don’t allow children to be carried in packs or sit on the front of Snowboards so you won’t be able to access any lifts like this. We can take children from any age in a private lesson and also have sledding available which is fun for the whole family. Do you rent clothing? Yes, We offer, Jackets, Pants and Helmets. For hygienic reasons, we do not offer gloves. We do have gloves for sale at our retail store. Do you offer ski and snowboard tuning? Yes, our workshop is located in our rental building. You can purchase all our services for waxing and tuning on the mountain, and even get 25% off if you have a season pass. Other things I need to know? We are cashless!
